Heist Brew Co and Taproom held a craft brewing event to celebrate and support female identifying and non-binary people working in the industry.

The brewery promoted the event as an ‘open invite to all female identifying and non-binary people who either work in beer or like drinking it, to come on down, brew a beer, meet kindred beer spirits, and have a jolly good time.’

Lucienne Hallam, organiser of the event, said: “It’s vital to have women in the industry, I wish these events weren’t necessary and the industry had the equality that we are all striving for but at the moment it’s a male dominated industry.”

Held at their brewery at 107 Neepsend Lane the event was considered a success by organisers with over 30 people attending.

The event was held as part of Sheffield Beer Week, a week-long festival celebrating the region’s brewing landscape. It’s also about highlighting the wonderful world of beer, taking, and sharing inspiration from across the globe.

The festival is in its 9th year having started in 2015, and held a virtual event in its sixth year, 2021, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. This year is significant as Sheffield has retained its title of ‘real ale capital of the world’.

People travelled from all over the country from places such as Brighton, Suffolk and Leeds, to visit the event with organisers saying it was important to them that people wanted to travel as it showed the importance and pull of the event.

Ebony Boyd, part of the management team at Head of Steam in Sheffield, said: “We get their beers in a lot, and we love supporting the industry during these trying times.

“International women’s day is a good example to bring people together – it is great to know the background of how the brewing is done.”

Heist started brewing in a village called Clowne in 2018, quickly building a reputation for a wide variety of beers and styles, they moved to their Sheffield site in August 2021, and they now brew 200 different beers on site – working with 40 breweries around the world.
