New “THINK BEFORE YOU PARK” placards can be spotted on the roads outside every Hillsborough primary school to encourage safer parking.

New placards outside Marcliffe School

All of the Hillsborough primary schools have accepted a roll out of the “THINK BEFORE YOU PARK” signs after the local community urged for change in the area.

Locals were noticing an increase of irresponsible parking during school rushes, so took it upon themselves to create and offer these placards to all the Hillsborough primary schools.

Hillsborough parent Jackie Thompson said: “It’s about time; the attitudes of people parking outside the schools is downright disrespectful and often unsafe for the kids.

“I think there needs to be a ban on parking outside the primary schools entirely, it’s just too dangerous for the kids going in and out.”

The placards were funded by the Local Area Committee, who are committed to funding community organisations improving Hillsborough.

The council have have pledged to make school streets safer for children, having already set up 27 part-time 20mph zones outside Sheffield schools.

Others are also urging for parking to be banned altogether, particularly outside of Hillsborough Primary School.

However, there are already double yellow lines around the immediate school area, which are being ignored by many drivers.

Local Janine Morrall said: “You can’t even walk or cycle safely because of how they double park and even on the footpaths.”
