Despite Sheffield’s hilly terrain, many residents are getting involved in the running club craze which has taken social media by storm.

Over the past year, the search ‘running clubs’ has had over 3.1 billion views on TikTok.

This newest trend encourages people to get outdoors, and run with a supportive group.

Sheffield locals Jake Jewitt and Jack Watts setup Run Happy Running Club just after lockdown in 2020, and it has become increasingly popular in recent months.

Run Happy attendee Michelle Village, 22, said: “They are a great way to make new friends, and compared to starting running from something like a couch to 5k, the group is way more fun.”

Run Happy run all around Sheffield, and host a beginner run on the first Sunday of every month, which is at a slower pace.

Dev Alkins, 26, who has attended the club from when it first started, said: “They never leave anyone behind, so it’s a really good way to get into running.

“After each run, the club goes for coffee, or to a pub, giving everyone a chance to chat and get to know each other.”

He explained: “Loads of the group are genuinely good mates, it’s really nice to see.”
