Steel City Antweight Robots (SCAR) hosted its latest battle at Sheffield’s Kommune last weekend.

This event had players build robots under the ‘Beetleweight’ regulation, ensuring they all fall under the 1.5kg weight limit.

SCAR was founded in 2022 by Gus Collier and regularly hosts ‘robot combat’ events around Sheffield.

“The community in combat robotics is really brilliant,” Mr Collier said. “If you’re at an event, people often help you – even if you’re fighting them next.”

Mr Collier had previously competed in multiple BattleBots championships, bringing his passions into SCAR.

He said, “There are always big hits going off – things that stick with you. If you come as a spectator, you pick up a lot of the action.”

Competitors are expected to pay an entry fee, but the event is free for spectators and all ages are welcome.

The group also hosts competitions under the ‘Antweight’ regulation, which restricts robots to a 150g weight class.

The next SCAR event will be under ‘Antweight’ and is set to occur in April 2024, with the location and exact date still to be confirmed.
