A charity run led by local fitness enthusiasts is raising money for homeless support in Rotherham this Sunday.
James “Jimmy” Dean, the proprietor of the local Rotherham fitness club Mind Over Matter Training and Fitness is leading the charity run on behalf of local charity Shiloh – who offer support, advice and practical help to those on the street.
The event, led by Mr Dean and other local fitness enthusiasts will lead joggers and walkers around the scenic Thrybergh County Park – where they will complete a 6-kilometre course over two laps.
Mind Over Matter has organised several charitable functions in the past as part of their stated mission to uplift the local community with charitable events and fundraisers. Mr Dean, the founder, spoke to the important work Shiloh does in their community.
Mr Dean said: “Shiloh is just across the road from where we are and we send people over to them quite a lot. They do food banks, they can do courses to help them get back into work, they can get a shower there – they are worth doing this for.”
This is not the first time that Mind Over Matter has helped their local homeless however. Several months ago, they helped raise hundreds of pounds for a homeless man who walked into the fitness club – including the cost of a temporary accommodation.
More than charity work, Mind Over Matter maintains a strict principle of “healthy body, healthy mind,” prizing healthy food and rigorous exercise as a strong and helpful tool in maintaining good mental health.
As part of their work in and around the local community, Mr Dean has asked for anyone who wishes to attend to join the charity run regardless of their fitness level.
Mr Dean said: “Don’t be shy. There’s no need to be embarrassed, we are a place where no one judges each other – the more people there, the more they’ll get out of it.”
The run is set to start at 12pm on the 28th of April at Thrybergh County Park in Rotheram.
