A volunteer group’s project which has planted millions of trees in communities across the country is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), a nationwide environmental organisation based in Doncaster, set up the ‘I Dig Trees’ scheme in 2015 to encourage people to get involved in protecting and connecting with their local green spaces.

The project provides volunteers with free ‘pocket forest’ packs to plant native trees in their communities as a way of taking positive action in fighting climate change and creating new habitats for wildlife, particularly in urban areas.

Events are held throughout the year up and down the UK, with nearly 9,000 community groups and over 140,000 volunteers taking part over the decade it has been run.
