The 6th anniversary of Covid-19 pandemic was honoured by Sheffield City Council at a memorial event hosted at Balm Tree Gardens.
The event was split into two with a session held at Sheffield Town Hall where tributes for loved ones could be made and tied to the Covid memorial willow tree.
Councillor Safiya Saeed, Lord Mayor, said: “We must work together and work in partnership to continue to raise the awareness about the health inequality impact that is continuing to happen.
“It’s a mixed emotion day but, most of all, we are here as a city together to spread the word of love.”
The Covid memorial tree was constructed in 2023 as a meaningful, long-lasting, creative tribute to those who were affected by the pandemic.
Sheffield City Council said: “We will always remember the compassion and love that so many people showed during one of the hardest times in our recent history.
“We acknowledge that Covid has had a disproportionate effect on some people in our society more than others. We continue with our commitment to reflect their voices and reduce inequalities in our city.”
