A 25-year-old man has been arrested following an attempted rape of an elderly woman in a popular Sheffield park.
Extra patrols are being carried out in the Shiregreen area, after police received reports at 7:26am on Wednesday 25 March that a man was assaulting and trying to rape a woman as she walked through the park.
The victim, a woman in her 70s, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.
Sheffield North East Neighbourhoods Inspector Alec Gibbons said: “The victim is receiving support from officers and trained medical professionals, and we have put extra patrols in place in the local area.
“We understand that news of this incident will cause concern in the local community, and I would urge anyone with questions or concerns to please speak to our officers on the ground – they are there to help you and keep you safe.”
South Yorkshire Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and speak to officers on patrol in Concord Park about the incident or get in touch by calling 101.
