A group of volunteers have been gathering every Wednesday to restore Broomhill Library’s Percy Cane Heritage Garden.

Kathy Harbord, a volunteer, wanted to make the garden available to the public, and despite it being a challenging task, has been working on it for many years.

The garden went into misuse because many York slabs were stolen, and whilst working on the project, the walls surrounding the garden collapsed, which is something they have had to overcome.

Kathy explained her main goal: “I want people to use it. I want there to be events in the garden. I want people to be having their Tai Chi in the garden. I want people to be sitting in chairs and reading books.”
