The family and friends of beloved Yousif Thabet have started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help people in Yemen.

The fundraiser is part of the Yousif’s Charity Foundation, a non-profitable charity set by on behalf of Yousif.

Reda Shadli, a 25-year-old call center worker from Sheffield said: “We are all a group of friends from Yemen. We started this charity in memory of our friend.  Every month we send whatever we can raise to different locations in the state.”

He added: “With the pandemic and people off work sometimes it is harder for them to donate. But slowly bit by bit everything is getting better and hopefully we can just keep up and give more and more to the people in Yemen.”

The money raised so far from the charity has contributed to the construction of wells, schools, and a small mosque in Yousif’s name.

In January, the group managed to send food packages to Aden, a city in Yemen to help feed families there. As well as selling praying mats for charity and raising money by doing jobs such as washing cars, gardening, painting in Sheffield.

According to Unicef, Yemen is currently the largest humanitarian crisis in the world with more than 24 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, including more than 12 million children.

The GoFundMe fundraiser, set up last week, says: “We are trying to raise money to send to the suffering people of Yemen to help feed them on the holy month of Ramadan.

“We plan on feeding as many families as possible this Ramadan and aim to reach as many as we did last year. No donation is too little for the families in Yemen!

Please donate as much or as little as you can as every penny will go towards helping a starving family.”
