A Sheffield-based video games developer has been hosting workshops for underrepresented groups after a report showed that the number of female workers in the industry is “significantly under the national average”.

Sumo Digital, developers of the Little Big Planet series of games, have been working alongside Sheffield Women in Computer Science (SWiCS) to teach women and non-binary students how to code for gaming.

Kassandra Yuen, President of SWiCS, said: “The UK needs to unlock untapped potential in women and other under-represented groups from all walks of life. Workshops like these are integral to achieving the goal.”

Sumo Digital have said they hope to work with SWiCS in the future to continue providing opportunities for underrepresented groups in the gaming industry.
