A man was seriously injured from a fallen tree this morning and significant travel delays on the rail and road have been ongoing around Sheffield and South Yorkshire.
A man has been seriously injured by a fallen tree on Endcliffe Vale Road from the harsh winds of Storm Otto.
The 50-year-old was taken to hospital after the incident at about 9am, police said.
The gusts reaching up to 70 mph have also damaged the surrounding road, and a nearby property.
Sheffield’s Council Maintenance Team, Streets Ahead and South Yorkshire Police are still in the area and at the scene where the casualty took place, trying to move the uprooted tree from the road.
However, the tree and all of its debris is still currently blocking the entire pathway to both vehicles and pedestrians.
Councillor Shaffaq Mohammed said on Twitter that Streets Ahead have declared one tree incident in particular as an ’emergency’ as it blocks the traffic on Worall Road, Sheffield.
The Met Office also issued a yellow warning at 8am this morning, and is due to remain until 2pm.
The message sent out by the Met is to take care when traveling as debris is covering many roads around Sheffield, such as Rivelin Valley Road, Highcliffe Drive and Worall Road.
Train lines were temporarily closed this morning between Sheffield and Stockport after a fallen tree was on the tracks, however this is now reopened and trains are running on a delayed schedule.
