What is International Women’s Day 2023?
On 8 March, it is International Women’s Day. This year the national days’ campaign is #EmbraceEquity.
The aim of the 2023 campaign is to get the world talking about why true inclusion requires equitable action.
This is to ensure that despite people being in different circumstances there is the same support and opportunities to ensure an equal outcome.
What are local Sheffield organisations doing to support women this year?
The Heeley Trust Community Hub is coming together on Tuesday 7th March to host an inclusive event in celebration of International Women’s Day.
It is happening on Tuesday, from 3-7pm at Heeley Green Community Centre, Gleadless Road , S2 3AJ.
This event will be hosting wellbeing tasters such as yoga, dance sessions and craft activities. As well as information about new monthly clinics which will be offering one to ones for working women to ensure training around women’s reproductive health is completed by employers. The scheme is to help women maintain their career and receive sufficient support. 9 out of 10 workers felt that the menopause affected their working life. https://www.tuc.org.uk/menopause-work
Jenny, Spokesperson from the Heeley Trust Community Hub said: ”Next Tuesday is the chance to meet the new women’s wellbeing team and try wellness tasters.“It is a chance to celebrate local women and allow everyone in the community to come together. We are just really trying to be inclusive, which is why we are running it from 3-7pm so people can call in on their way home from school pickup.”
The trust hopes to make workplaces educated on how best to support women whilst also helping the women themselves who are suffering from perimenopause, menopause and periods that are causing disruption to their careers.
Jenny said: ” We want people to come along and share their ideas to make sure that our organisation is based in the local community for the local community, so the project is shaped correctly for them.”
What is the Heeley Trust Community Hub?
The Trust is one of 16 projects funded by the Department of Health and Social Care which will be running for the next two years.
The 16 nationwide organisations will receive a share of £1.97 million from the government to support women’s reproductive health to ensure they remain in or return to the workplace. This will be running for the next two years.
Although it is a government funded project no taxpayers money is used to fund the events.
