Sheffield has been handed an Amber severe snow and ice weather warning which will be in place until 12 noon on Friday.
The Met Office has predicted 26.7mm of snow to fall in South Yorkshire over the next 24 hours, potentially causing disruption to many services such as buses and trams.
Stagecoach have said the snow is not causing any issues so far, with all services running as usual, but have warned there could be some delays.
Seven schools across the city of Sheffield have already confirmed they are closed for today, including Bents Green School, Stocksbridge Junior and Nursery School and Rowan School.
Some train services have been disrupted from Sheffield Interchange, such as north to Leeds, south to Nottingham and even short journeys to Doncaster being replaced by coach or delayed by up to an hour. The A57 Snake Pass will also be closed for the day, due to a problem with the electronic signs not working.
Temperatures currently stand at one degree, but due to heavy winds of 14 km/h, this is likely to have an actual feel of -4 degrees, and according to the Met Office these wintry conditions are expected to continue for the rest of the day.
