The incredibly impressive Adam Warner has gone from being an amateur at university darts nights to the bright lights of the Professional Darts Corporation.

He fulfilled many people’s dreams in January by coming through the UK Qualifying school in Milton Keynes, something which Adam says he “didn’t expect as I only wanted to get through the first stage and see where it led, however I reached the final of one of the days which all but secured me my card.”

His darting story began as a youngster, he said:  “From nine or ten my dad got me into darts, we put a board up in the garden and spent hours out there in all weathers, but it was only maybe when I was 14 that I started taking it seriously, I used to take my darts to school and went to a darts club for 6 months.”

However, he then stopped playing regularly for a few years, and it was his attendance at the University of Sheffield which, he says, “got me back into it.” He competed in the darts varsity events and then made his way onto the amateur darts scene, eventually earning a place on the Modus Super Series.

Adam said: “the Super Series was an amazing experience, I got to the finals night and all the lads from the Uni came down to Portsmouth to support me, cheering me onto winning the tournament.”

The current President of the University of Sheffield darts society, Jack Quinn, stated that he always knew Adam was good but explained how he ‘‘became exponentially better as he played more tournaments.”

He, and everyone within the society have been watching the new pro’s progress closely, with Jack planning on travelling to Wigan to spectate a Players Championship event. He then added that ‘‘he had a good win in the UK open last Friday and if he continues to improve, you never know how far he will be able to go in the game.”

Adam has an exciting few month’s ahead as he heads off to Munich to take part in the PDC’s European Tour and will be fighting to win his share of the £175,000 prize money on offer.

However, he also has his eyes set on the bigger picture, stating that “my target is to get to the World Championships as it awards the most ranking money which will allow me to hopefully keep my tour card, look I never expected to be where I am, but I am going to enjoy every minute of it.”
