Sheffield’s snow dump is causing chaos for football clubs across the area ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

Chesterfield FC resorted to asking fans to head to the stadium to help clear the snow off the pitch, in an attempt to ensure tomorrow’s game against Yeovil Town goes ahead.

The Spireites club statement said “Anyone who is willing to help should gain access via the gate at the south-west corner of the stadium.

“Plastic shovels and wheelbarrows are being used – please bring these items if you have them.

“Our grateful thanks to all the volunteers for their invaluable help.”

Sheffield United are also pulling out all the stops to ensure their top of the table clash against fifth place Luton Town goes ahead tomorrow at Bramall Lane.

The Blades statement this morning said: “Sheffield United officials are committed to do everything possible to ensure Saturday’s SkyBet Championship fixture with Luton Town goes ahead, despite the weather situation in the region.

“In addition to the undersoil heating being operational at Bramall Lane, the club are paying attention to the stands and surrounding areas, as well as being in constant dialogue with relevant stakeholders.”

Doncaster Rovers have had pitch covers in place since Tuesday’s loss to Harrogate Town, which they’re hoping will be enough for their home fixture against Wimbledon to go ahead tomorrow.

When asked about the odds of the game being called off, Doncaster boss Danny Schofield said: “I’ve not been made aware of that, the pitch will be covered up.

“I know we are in for some harsh weather but there’s been no talk about that.

“As far as I am concerned, the game will be on.”

Barnsley’s top of league one clash with second place Plymouth Argyle at Oakwell Stadium tomorrow has also been called into question of postponement.

The Tykes’ lunchtime club statement said: “The inclement weather overnight has thrown another challenge in front of us ahead of Saturday’s clash with Plymouth Argyle.

“Rest assured, all at Oakwell are working flat out, doing all that they can to ensure that the stadium and playing surface is fit for purpose when we welcome Plymouth Argyle tomorrow afternoon in a 3pm kick off.

“We thank all staff and contractors for their continued efforts during what has been a challenging week.

“As a Club, we will keep supporters updated accordingly.”

Temperatures are expected to reach freezing tonight, reaching a low of minus three degrees celsius.
