Junior Doctors across the country have been striking for 72 hours since Monday.

At Netherthorpe House, Jamilla Flaherty, 31, a Core Trainee Year 2 in Psychiatry said: “When I went to University in 2011 my peers were being paid up to 25% more than I’m getting now.”

They are asking for a 35% pay increase in line with inflation and the 26% cut from their pay since 2008/09.

A recent BMA study showed that 79% of junior doctors have thought about quitting the NHS.

NHS Medical Director Professional Sir Stephen Powis said: “As with previous industrial action, disruption is inevitable, however, it is vital that people do not put off seeking care and dial 999 in a life-threatening emergency.”
