A house fire in Sheffield which left two adults and two children in hospital is being treated as arson, police have said.

Emergency services were called to Wordsworth Avenue in Parson Cross just before 21:00 GMT on Tuesday night.

A 47 year old woman and a 42 year old man are in a serious condition. A 17 year old girl has since been released from hospital and a six year old girl remains in hospital with minor injuries.

Officers are continuing to investigate and at this stage it is believed the fire was started deliberately.

South Yorkshire Police say they are working with the fire service to find the cause of the attack.

Det Insp Rich Armstrong said: “I know this incident may have caused some concern in the community, and I want to reassure you we are doing everything possible to find who was responsible.”

Extra officers have been put on patrol in the area on Wednesday night for the public to talk to if they have any concerns.
