A charity cycle event have put out an appeal for marshals, riders and volunteers to help set up a race this Saturday.

The Westfield Health Park Hill Urban Hillclimb will commence at noon in Park Hill.

The group, Sheffield Urban Cyclo, will be hosting the event with junior, older junior, adult, and Brompton categories.

Adam Simmonite, events manager of Sheffield Urban CX said: “We’re excited to hold this innovative event that will engage people into cycling.

“The Park Hill Uprise will be a good pathway into cycle as well as encouraging people to use sustainable transport and active travel.

“It will bring the community together and give people a reason to go up to Park Hill and see how great the area is.”

Mr Simmonite added that it’s not too late to take part as they are still searching for volunteers and riders.

The race is part of The Festival of The Outdoors which is a month-long festival of events and activities that showcase why Sheffield has the status of The Outdoor City.

All of the entry fees will be split between two charities, Roundabout, a South Yorkshire youth shelter project and WoodHead Mountain Rescue which is part of a national network of Mountain Rescue units that assist in mountain rescues in Sheffield and surrounding areas.

Emily Bush, fundraising manager of Roundabout said:

“We are so grateful for the support of people in our community. Events like The Park Hill Uprise are not just helping to raise vital funds to support homeless young people across South Yorkshire, but they also raise awareness for our services for those who need them.

“The donation from this event and everyone taking part will benefit the 350 young people that we work with across South Yorkshire every single day.”

Sheffield Urban Cyclo encourage all generations and abilities to take part in the four races.

Westfield Health are the title sponsor of the race, with J E James Sheffield and the Giant Store Sheffield also supporting.

Dan Peters, who is competing this Saturday in the adult male category said:

“This isn’t an elite level event. It’s quite accessible so someone that isn’t really a racer, such as myself, can have a go and take part. It’s a cool location and it should be a fun atmosphere for a bike race.

“I’m looking forward to a fun day. It would be great to get a big crowd there, cheering the riders on, making a load of noise.”
