Farmers in South Yorkshire are continuing to face rising costs in all sectors of the industry. The cost of energy to run their machines and the price of grain to feed the animals they keep means turning a profit is becoming more difficult.
They are doing this whilst government subsidies have been cut by 22% and agricultural and environmental restriction has become more aggressive.
Mark Wilkinson is one of those farmers effected, having built his farming business from scratch. He is now reliant on his contract roofing business to afford feed for his cattle and to feed himself.
Like many farmers, he fears for the future of the farming industry and is experiencing first hand the new problems they face.
