A Sheffield school is leading a scheme to close the road outside its gates during drop-off and pick-up times.

Parents and children have been struggling with traffic congestion and safety concerns during school drop-off and pick-up times for a long time. With a high volume of cars queuing outside schools, the situation has led to an increased risk of accidents. Furthermore, the pollution from these vehicles has been a cause of concern, impacting the health of children.

In response, Broomhill Infant School in Sheffield has taken a bold step to address these issues. The school has implemented a scheme to close road outside the school during drop-off and pick-up times. This innovative approach is aimed at creating a safer environment for children and minimise the risk of accidents, reducing the risk caused by air pollution especially for children who had respiratory illness.

Keator Cheng has spoke to the school’s head teacher about the scheme.
