Victims of the gas flood that disrupted the lives of hundreds of people Stannington have finally met with Yorkshire Water.

In December 2022, hundreds of homes in Stannington faced freezing winter temperatures with no heating or hot water, following a disastrous gas flood in the area. Five months on, they have finally sat down with Yorkshire Water to resolve their issues and claim their compensation.

Mary Aston, of Holme Oak Way, a volunteer at St Wilfrid’s Centre in Sheffield, said: “It was horrible, I had no heating from the 2nd to the 22nd December.”

Mrs Aston organised the campaign to get Yorkshire Water to Stannington. She has led two public meetings, gathering the community together to get their voices heard.

Mrs Aston said: “Steps are being taken and I am happy with what Yorkshire Water are doing now.

“It may have taken a long time but I am hoping that this is the beginning of the end.”
