Museums are some of the most important establishments in society, helping to educate children and adults on important events that shape our understanding of the world. Yet sadly many of them are struggling financially and at risk of closing down.
May 18th is International Museum Day, an event organised every year to promote the cultural importance of museums and engage with the community.
The theme for this year’s International Museum Day is “Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing” and each museum has pledged themselves to promote healthy living and awareness of the lack of biodiversity in our society.
I visited Weston Park Museum to explain how the day works and ask members of the public in Sheffield why they think museums are important.
