The renowned awards show is held annually to celebrate Music of Black Origin in the UK, and this year the 26th MOBO awards was at the Sheffield Utilita Arena.
Jason Hocking, 55, Managing Director of CC-lab, the company responsible for filming the event for TV, talks about the significance of hosting an event like this in Sheffield.
He said: “We have held this show in places like Wembley, but Sheffield is an important city with tonnes of culture.
“Holding the show up north means people all across the UK to attend as well, rather than keeping it in one place, which would limit the amount of different people who can come because of travel and money reasons.”
CC-lab specialises in live TV production, having covered other events such as The Isle of White Festival and the NME awards.
Despite covering events this size, Mr Hocking is continuously impressed with the MOBO’s, “this is the fourth time we have done the MOBO Awards, and the event just keeps on growing”.
The award show, which included performances from Soul II Soul and the Sugar Babes, boasted a star-studded cast of musicians in attendance.
Little Simz, Bugzy Malone and The University of Sheffield graduate Munya Chawawa are just some of the names who attended the show along with many others.
Mr Hocking also mentions the importance of Sheffield City Council on their operations of the event. He said: “Sheffield City Council hooked us up with hotels and travel which has been super helpful.
“The event has been a success for us and a great experience as well, every time we have produced these awards it’s been a great time.”
The MOBOs concluded with Little Simz winning the best hip hop act and a performance from Soul 2 Soul.
The event was streamed live on YouTube but CC-lab’s website will have it available as well, which can be found here https://www.cc-lab.com/
