The Sheffield Cats Shelter has opened its newest charity shop on Crookes Road to help more cats and kittens in need across the city.

The shop was officially unveiled with a ribbon cutting on Thursday 22nd February at noon by the charity’s patron, former Dancing On Ice star and Sheffield-born cat lover Frankie Seaman.

Sarah Smith, Charity Manager for The Sheffield Cats Shelter said:  “As a small, but old, charity we receive no funding from the government, so we’re completely reliant on the generosity of cat lovers across Sheffield and beyond.

“Our two shops at Hillsborough and Ecclesall Road are a major source of income for us, so we’re delighted to be opening a third Sheffield Cats Shelter charity shop in Broomhill!’’

In recent years, Sheffield has seen a sharp rise in the number of people looking to rehome their felines, as well as an increase in the number of them being abandoned.

Every pound raised from fundraisers, legacies and charity shops goes directly toward helping cats and kittens in the local shelter.

Rachael Hobbs, Area Manager for Sheffield Cats Shelter said: ‘’So with the three shops, they are all going to fund the shelter to run as it is, all the medical bills, all the feeding, all of the staff, workers etc.

“And then obviously any other income we get from profits after that will be to help us get bigger premises.’’

The Sheffield Cats Shelter has seen new volunteers sign up to help in the new shop, as well as more familiar faces such as those who worked at the site when it was Save the Children.

Also in attendance yesterday was local Instagram influencer, Faye Wagstaffe, better known as Charity Shop Gal to her followers.

“I’m from Sheffield and the Sheffield Cats Shelter is just a fantastic charity that I support and I regularly buy things from their Ecclesall Road branch which is just a brilliant charity shop anyway.’’

The charity shop is located at 7 Crookes Road, Broomhill S10 5BA, and is currently open Monday-Thursday from 10 am-2 pm to drop off any donations.
