Cooking and bowling were among the more unusual services being promoted during a virtual open evening for healthcare professionals at a Sheffield hospice.

The event, held at St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield on Wednesday, was an opportunity to find out more about the support services available to patients.

It was an event to promote the use of their Ecclesall Road south site which is where they run their patient and family support services.

This particular event was being run to attract GPs and health service professionals to give them a little more insight into what those services are.

Media relations manager John Highfield said: “People have to report to us and so we need GPs and health service practitioners to be able to recognise the importance of this.

“We have done things like this before, it’s just that we’ve got a whole raft of excellent services on offer that we want people to know about and of course we want patients to access more. That’s the most important thing.

“This is all about patient care but I think the feeling was perhaps even people in the industry were not quite aware.

The event was a spotlight opportunity for people to talk and see what services St Luke’s are offering and therefore be able to point patients in their direction.

“People thoroughly enjoy being there taking part in things like cooking and bowling. We offer things beyond what people imagine. There’s such a wonderful atmosphere and vibe.”
