A community hub in Sheffield is hosting a special event for International Women’s Day.

Pat Midgley Community Hub in Wybourn, Sheffield has organised what it is calling a ‘pamper, feel good, well-being’ event which will take place tomorrow from 12:30-2:30pm.

Christina Grant, Community Centre coordinator said: “The event is about empowering women.”

International women’s day is a world-wide celebrated event which aims to raise awareness about discrimination and fight for gender equality. This year the campaign theme is “inspire inclusion”.

Ms Grant says that the aim of the event is to create a “pamper, feel good well-being event where you can come and get a massage or have henna done”.

The Pat Midgley, on Manor Oaks Road, has been in Sheffield since 2022 and Ms Grant highlighted that with the community centre still being relatively new, she hopes the event will attract people to the centre.

She said: “The community hub is quite central and quite an important part. The event is to showcase the centre but also to uplift people’s spirits.”

She added that “The centre is a valuable resource for the community. “

When asked what International Women’s Day meant to her, Ms Grant said: “It’s a special time of year celebration for all women to come together as a community, celebrating achievements, raising awareness and sharing our experiences.”

“It’s also time for Sheffield to acknowledge women throughout history.  Particularly remembering the women of steel who kept the steel works running during both World War I & II. Celebrating their strength, tenacity and their achievements.

“This brings us to the present day, in early February 2024 women from the Wybourn community supported the Unite the Union’s Save UK Steel campaign.”

Tomorrow’s event welcomes all women and there are crafts and refreshments available for those attending.
