A Celebration of Women in Sheffield event took place this morning where the new Period Equity and Menopause Charter was discussed between charities and Sheffield City Council.
The event was in collaboration with Sheffield-based charities such as Irise International, Period Positive and GMB S38 Branch.
Irise International has worked with Kind Direct helping up to 445,000 people each week by distributing period products, commissioning new research and working through partnerships.
Charlie Cloak, GMB Equalities Officer for S38 Branch said: “Whilst it is International Women’s Day and it’s fantastic that we have that, there aren’t many men in the room who are hearing this and acknowledging the impact period equity and menopause has on them.”
It’s currently costing workplaces 3.5 billion a year with the amount of women affected by their periods at work, which is why the charter is so important.
Councillor Fran Belbin said: “Thank you all for coming and for the event and happy International Women’s Day.”
Sheffield City Council’s Period Equity and Menopause Charter will be discussed fully on Tuesday next week following today’s event.
