Sheffield Wednesday’s Women’s Supporters Group have been celebrating women for the past month as part of their new #KeepingScore campaign.
The campaign was introduced to celebrate the role that fan groups play in creating Safe Communities of Respect and Equality.
Bethany Clements Patrick, a spokesperson for SWFC WSG outlined the plans ahead of this evening’s Championship clash vs Leeds United:
“Before kick off, we’ll be meeting the players on arrival and they’ll be warming up in our #KeepingSCORE campaign shirts.
“We’ll be having a meet-up in the FanZone for members to celebrate.
“At half time, we will have an all-female halftime challenge.”
The supporters group and its members will be holding a bucket collection around Hillsborough Stadium.
It will be in support of Sheffield Charity Mums in Need, which provides support services for mums who have experienced emotional abuse from ex-partners.
It’s a vital time to raise awareness of making football inclusive.
“In the last number of months, the sport suffered high profile sexist incidents from past and present players.
‘While football has made incredible strides since my childhood, recent news has highlighted that we still have a long way to go.”
Over the past month, SWFC WSG have run a series of interviews with women connected to Wednesday, such as Chloe Bannan and Wednesday Ladies striker Amy Broomhead.
Support from The Owlesses
They have been supported over the past month by Sheffield Wednesday Ladies FC, who collaborated with the group to dedicate their cup fixture vs Kiveton Park to the brilliant work they’ve done.
The dedicated fixture saw Wednesday Ladies exclusively interview members of the group, alongside advertising the cause as part of its matchday content.
“Collaboration and community has underpinned our IWD campaigns and celebrations.
“We’re stronger together behind a single message.
“A win for female fans of the mens game, or the rise of the women’s game, or improved inclusivity for LGBTQI+ allies all benefit one another.
