The stop at Magna Science Adventure Centre will be the newest addition to the route since opening in 2018.

Sheffield’s City Region will fund £6.6m from their £166m Transforming City Fund into the new tram stop.

With the addition of this new stop, more than 200,000 journeys could be made each year on the team, and will hopefully increase footfall to the centre.

Max Griffith, 25 said: “I travel to Meadowhall most days a week for work so I use the tram a lot. Some of my family lives in Rotherham too so the new stop would be helpful to get closer to where I need to be when I visit.”

The tram program has been in place for five years and has had benefits of lower maintenance costs, with 2.3 million journeys completed so far.

Emma Sampson, 30 said: “I think it’s a really good idea to extend the tram services because recently they haven’t been very reliable, I use the tram nearly everyday and it would be useful to me to have more stops so I can get to work quicker.”

The new tram train stop is an enhancement of the network and will improve additional transport to the Magna Centre.
