Theatre Deli opens five days a week to support artists and communities in Sheffield and offers a free three-course vegan meal every Friday.
They have paused their spring performances and café expansion plans due to financial difficulty.
This comes at the same time as the foodbank based at St Mary’s community church temporarily shut down, which is also believed to be due to financial issues.
Steven Colton, a 68-year-old user of both services and former volunteer cook at St Marys said: “Through St Mary’s social supermarket you could get £30 worth of food for £4. Families rely on it. People won’t get by without it.”
For the first nine months of Theatre Deli’s one year existence, the community café ran on a budget of £1,500.
Volunteer Morwenna Carlin said: “It was a huge stress. It was winter so we had less volunteers. People tend to be more drained and depressed in winter and have less energy to give.”
