Music lovers are in for a treat as “Amp It Up Sheffield” is an up and coming band battle for local bands to rock out their jams for a charitable cause.
Sheffield Hallam University student, Annya Freeman, is the organiser and one of the creative minds behind “Amp It Up Sheffield”, which is a charity infused with a battle of the bands concept.
There is a GoFundMe to raise funds to cover the costs of the event. The remainder of the funds along with the profit made from the event will be donated equally among the charities.
Although the primary goal is to raise funds for three incredible local charities: Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Cavendish Cancer Care, and Weston Park Cancer Charity, she is also hoping to create a fun and electrifying experience for the entire Sheffield community.
The events management student, originally from Liverpool, says: “I come from a strong music culture, and grew up around musicians. My main focus for this event is to create a positive space for the involved bands and raising money for the charities.”
“One key objective is to provide a platform for local bands to showcase their talent to a diverse audience, encompassing both students and Sheffield residents. Music’s inherent ability to foster a sense of community aligns perfectly with my desire to create a unifying experience for all attendees.”
Held at the Sidney and Matilda Basement on Sunday, May 5th, the competitors will turn up the volumes and compete for a chance to jam out and record at Buffalo Recording Studio in Leeds for a day.
As this is her first time organising such an event, the process has presented its share of challenges, but it has also proven to be both stimulating and fulfilling.
Freeman says: “A particular aspect of the project I have enjoyed is the opportunity to forge connections with the talented musicians of Sheffield’s vibrant music scene. Their inclusion adds distinctive character to the event. I’m extremely excited about the event and eager to see the public’s response.”
