Sharrow Vale Market returns bigger than ever this Sunday from 12pm-4pm with 105 stalls expected to fill the street with food, clothes, crafts, and music.

The non-profit event raises money for local charities and community spaces such as the planters on Sharrow Vale Road and their Pocket Park.

The Sharrow Vale Association is a group run by five core volunteers who organise the event, which has been running for over ten years.

Laura Faulkner, 45, from Sharrow Vale, Sheffield, is one of the organisers for the market, which is held three times a year, and said: “I really enjoy the buzzing atmosphere on the day and showcasing how lovely the area is.

Shopkeepers on the road have stalls and put their shops out, craft people from around the city come in and show the talented crafts they have, and people bring tasty food they’ve cooked.”

Laura Faulkner said: “It’s for all ages, we often have a kids activities corner with Santa’s Grotto at Christmas and in spring we’ve had seed planting.

“A lot of people think it’s run by the council and don’t realise it’s run by volunteers and that the money goes back into the local area.”

Causes supported by the group in the past include a project to help the disabled and elderly access the park through bikes, local youth charity the Golddigger Trust, and helping maintain the defibrillator on the road.

The market also donates a charity stall for free which has previously supported Guide Dogs and the Nether Edge Tree Fund.

There will be a music stand at the market with Nether Edge Voices singing as well as Sheffield Cancer Choir to raise money.

To put together the market, the organisers and volunteers are out from 6am to set up and wardens are needed to ensure health and safety.

Sharrow Vallow Association is not limited to just the market and there are plenty of ways to get involved.

The group works on a range of community projects including regular litter picks and graffiti removal.

They are asking for more volunteers to help and details for getting in touch with them can be found here.
