With Earth Day 2024 approaching, small businesses across Sheffield took on an environmentally friendly approach with plastic free products.
The Earth Day theme this year is planet vs plastic and the World Wildlife Fund has announced that their focus is tackling plastic pollution and campaigning to protect nature and the climate.
The sustainability movement has become more widespread with the Plastic Market Free Event held on Sunday by Sheffield Action on Plastic, showcasing this shift.
Charity organisations and the Sheffield City Council are working to reduce the effects of non recyclable waste on the environment.
Greg Hewitt, Chairperson of the Sheffield Action on Plastic organisation, said: “My passion is all about bringing people together to make a difference.”
On Monday the 22nd of April, companies around Sheffield will be holding activities in celebration of earth day. Sheffield City Council statistics have shown that a large proportion of harmful emissions are caused by domestic waste.
The Plastic Free Event held at Trafalgar Square hosted small businesses from plastic free candles to upcycled clothes.
There were around 100 attendees, and a variety of eco-friendly and affordable products.
Next week, businesses will participate in sustainable practices such as recycling programmes and using sustainable materials.
