William Simpson is offering his knowledge to the community through private sessions in the newly opened Flow Boxing.

The new shop and gym, located on Abbydale Road, offers top of the line boxing equipment and tutoring for all ability levels.

The now retired boxer, who used to fight under the name ‘The Northern Monkey’, won his fair share of silverware during his 19 years in the sport.

Bringing home several Yorkshire titles, the north of England belt and a gold medal in the Haringey box cup, in his amateur career before making his professional debut.

After exams revealing a high risk of health concerns, he made the decision to take a step back from competing, and make the move into coaching.

Describing his last bout, he said: “I saw the match through as it had been my life goal until then. I boxed smart to avoid damage but couldn’t resist the urge to use my natural style and get stuck in, I won every round, retiring undefeated.”

Mr Simpson began his coaching career during the pandemic.

He said: “I noticed during that time the positive influences of coaching people and fulfilment in that. After working with literally hundreds of people, I was being approached for private sessions.

“So after competing I decided to use private boxing sessions as a source of income around my volunteering.”

Having coached local teams Simpson remains well known in the Sheffield boxing community.

A past student of his, Benj Simons encouraged members of the community to see Simpson for tutoring.

“I really enjoyed training with Will when he hosted Monday night sessions in our local gym. I had never boxed before attending those sessions so I really appreciated his teaching style as it made me feel comfortable even though I had the least experience in the room.

“I would really encourage anyone interested in the sport to reach out to him, he’s a great coach and a good laugh as well.”

Sessions with Mr Simpson start at £30 per hour with the option to book discounted block sessions.

He encourages all ability levels to reach out to him for details on his bookings and can be messaged via his Instagram.
