A 22 year-old Sheffield Hallam University student, is organising a unique charity project named Amp It Up Sheffield to raise money for three local charities.

Annya Freeman was inspired by her love for music to set up a ‘Battle of the Bands’ inspired event to fundraise for Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Cavendish Cancer Care, and Weston Park Cancer Charity as they work closely with Sheffield Hallam Event Management students.

Annya said: “My lifelong passion for music immediately made a Battle of the Bands the ideal event concept. Growing up in Liverpool, a city famous for its vibrant music scene and the legendary Beatles, I developed a deep love for live performances.”

“It allows me to seamlessly combine my love of music with the opportunity to raise awareness and critical financial support for these important causes.”

The musically inspired charity event will be held at the Sidney and Matilda Basement on Sunday 5 May.

Annya revealed that the process of selecting which bands would perform for the event proved to be difficult due to the amount of local interest.

Annya said: “I have enjoyed the opportunity to forge connections with the talented musicians of Sheffield’s vibrant music scene.”

“Their inclusion adds distinctive character to the event. I’m extremely excited about the event and eager to see the public’s response.”

Annya said the attendees should expect “some of the best local bands battling it out for our 1st and 2nd prize” and it is a “competition not to be missed!”

During the event, bands will have the opportunity to ‘battle it out’ in hopes of winning a day-long recording session at Buffalo Recording Studio in Leeds.

Annya said: “I’d like to thank the bands involved such as Settlements, Zibel, Adams Sister, X2 Fast, carbons. Also, our sponsor Make Noise studio for dedicating their time, talent, and resources to this amazing cause.”

A fundraiser has been set up on GoFundMe to help the organisers to cover the costs of the event.

The remainder of the funds raised along with any profit made from the charity event will be donated equally to the three chosen charities.
