A man who was arrested in regards to the investigation surrounding the death of ice hockey player Adam Johnson has been re-bailed.

The Nottingham Panthers player, who suffered a fatal cut to the throat during a match against the Sheffield Steelers on October 28, 2023 was officially pronounced dead in hospital of a neck injury.

A man, who has not yet been named, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in November last year but was later bailed. Yesterday, he was further re-bailed until May 14.

The incident caused an outpour of support and sympathy across the world following Johnson’s untimely death, particularly for his family. The Nottingham Panthers played a special memorial game in his honour in November of last year – where thousands of fans gathered to celebrate his life.

Immediately following his death, the young player’s club released a statement honouring his memory and asking for privacy for his family.

They said: “Adam, our number 47, was not only an outstanding ice hockey player, but also a great teammate and an incredible person with his whole life ahead of him. The Club will dearly miss him and will never ever forget him.”

This comes only shortly after senior coroner Tankya Rawden suspended her inquiry into Johnson’s death pending further investigations into the tragic case.

Ms Rawden’s office said: “In light of the fact a person may be charged with a homicide offence involving the death of the deceased, HM Senior Coroner has suspended her investigation into Mr Johnson’s death.”
