A Sheffield Hallam University student who uses animal hair in jewellery in order for owners to commemorate their pets has launched an exhibition of her work.

The exhibition presents a captivating dialogue embracing diverse materials and mediums, transcending traditional boundaries of artistic expression.

It provides visitors with a profound insight into the amalgamation of contemporary artistic concepts and global modern design principles.

Designer and artist Sun Qian was inspired by the hard time her pet dog went through a time at death’s door and found her pet plays an important role in relation to both physical and emotional attachment.

The series contains rings and necklaces made in a traditional Chinese velvet flower style that can be both worn by pets and owners.

“The life expectancy of a dog is very short compared to a human, I wanted to let my pet stay with me in another form,” Qian Sun said.

The artwork combines both metal craft techniques and precious pet fur in the form of jewellery in memory of pets.

She said: “I hope the jewellery can be a contact point between the wearer and their pets, the memories and relationships will be eternal in the form of jewellery.”
