The Sheffield Young Artists exhibition celebrates its 20th anniversary this week with a mission to showcase the incredible talents of Sheffield’s youth.
Children aged five to 18 from 50 schools across the city have contributed to the exhibition, displaying approximately 850 pieces of artwork at the Central United Reform Church on Norfolk Street.
Ken Marshall, who organises Sheffield Young Artists on behalf of Sheffield Abbeydale Rotary, said: “We try to show off their remarkable talents and allow students across the city to get involved.
“It’s brilliant to see the influence something like this has on young minds and bringing people of all ages together.”
To celebrate the 20th anniversary, organisers Sheffield Abbeydale Rotary are in collaboration with the World Snooker tournament, where the exhibition features portraits of worldwide snooker players.
The event also includes work by special schools, the Sheffield Children’s Hospital cancer ward, the Royal Society for the Blind, orphans from Zimbabwe, and children from Ukraine.
There are nine categories covering the age groups with no set theme, giving freedom for the choice of subject. Each artist is awarded a certificate.
This yearly showcase, which relies on sponsors and volunteers, is reputed to be the largest annual young people’s art exhibition in the UK.
The artwork will be available to see until 7pm tonight, with the final showcase taking place this Saturday from 10am to 3pm.
