Blades boss Chris Wilder confirmed the absence of Oli McBurnie, who was not included in the squad away at Manchester United

The striker missed the midweek game after a groin injury, with the Scotsman getting a scan the following morning to examine the severity of the injury.

“Oli’s out for the season,” said Wilder at today’s conference.

“That’s the end of his season and he’s another big one missing from a leadership and experience point of view.”

The results mean that he will miss the Blades’ final four games this season, with Ben Brereton Díaz and Cameron Archer likely to slot in for the injured striker.

The injury front gets worse for Wilder’s side as James McAtee awaits results for a scan following his injury in the 87th minute at Old Trafford, despite coming on in the second half.

“There’s a question mark about McAtee.

“He went for a scan and we are waiting for the results this morning.”

The 21-year-old’s absence will be a huge blow for the Premier League outfit, who’s injury list keeps growing.

On a positive note, Wilder confirmed that Jayden Bogle’s substitution was only precautionary, with him being hopeful of the wing-back being available for the trip to Newcastle.

Wilder on Arblaster after captain’s performance

Away from the injury front, the gaffer was full of praise for young midfielder Oli Arblaster who led out his side as captain at the Theatre of Dreams.

“There’s still a lot of work to go into Oli.

“I think you know why from a mentality point of view that I made him captain as I knew he’d be able to handle it at Old Trafford.”

Wilder also explained the goalkeeper situation as Wes Foderingham came in for Ivo Grbic.

“He’s [Foderingham] staying in the team, he was outstanding.

“We made a change in December, we all thought we needed that change.

“But it hasn’t worked out so far. We have to accept that.”

Defeat this weekend would see the Blades mathematically relegated from the Premier League, something that seems to have been sealed for weeks.

Elsewhere, victory for Forest, who play Man City, would seal the fate of United, no matter the result at St. James’ Park.
