All of the ballots have been verified and the count has begun.
Sarah Norman, CEO of Barnsley council and the local election returning officer, said: “I think it’s all gone very smoothly, we’re slightly ahead of schedule. We thought we might not start counting till one o’clock so from my point of view, that’s a result.”
