A 17-year-old boy appeared in Magistrates’ Court today, charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to three people at Birley Academy School.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was brought up from custody to Sheffield Magistrates’ Court shortly after 1pm.

He appeared in the dock wearing a light grey jumper.

Prosecutor Jennifer Pender said the teenager is charged with three counts of attempted grievous bodily harm, and one count of possession of a sharp pointed article.

He did not enter a plea at this time.

The boy appeared before the District Judge, James Gould.

Judge Gould refused the teenager bail and remanded him into youth detention accommodation. 

Police said after the incident at Birley Academy on Wednesday 1 May, two people suffered minor injuries and one person was uninjured.

The boy, who was represented by Jon Raj, will appear in Crown Court on 31 May.
