‘Music Makes Memories’ organises ‘friendship lunches’ that are open to all ages and often include entertainment from a range of artists playing songs from over the decades to help people to reminisce.
The lunches are ideal for those living with dementia and can provide invaluable respite to families and carers.
Organiser Kathy Markwick said: “I am extremely proud of the success of the events. I have so many examples of guests who confirm they are hugely beneficial.”
Rosemary Marshall, attends many of the events across South Yorkshire. She said: “ I’ve been trying to get hubby out and be more social in our old age. I like socialising, I like meeting new people and this is a brilliant way.”
There has been a huge demand for social events like this since the pandemic.
Mrs Marshall said: “There are lots of people who can’t get out or don’t know anybody and they come here, meet someone new. The social is brilliant.”
A typical Friendship Lunch includes live music and a 2 course lunch.
There are events in Crookes, Crosspool, Beighton, Bents Green, Manor Park, Kimberworth, Chapeltown and Grenoside.
