A festival celebrating all things vegan is coming to Sheffield for the first time this Sunday.
‘Sheffield Vegan Festival’ is set to host more than 60 stalls, ranging from unique food to clothing, and even some live cooking demonstrations.
Victoria Bryceson, an organiser of the event, said: “The festival was set up to raise awareness of veganism and try to help and encourage people to go vegan.
A lot of non vegans come and say ‘we’ll never try vegan food cause it’s weird and boring’ and we’re there to show people that it’s actually totally normal food.”
The event is set to be hosted at the English Institute of Sport and is said to be ‘Yorkshire’s Biggest Vegan Extravaganza.’
Many of the stalls present will be hosted by small family run businesses from Sheffield, which Miss Bryceson said are “important to support – now, more than ever.”
She continued: “We expect that most of the visitors will be from Sheffield, so it is an event very much for the people of Sheffield.”
Businesses that are a part of the festival include vegan fish and chip shop ‘There’s No Catch’, vegan kebab shop ‘Seitan’s Kebab’, vegan pie shop ‘Magpye’, and more.
‘Happy Mouse’, an award-winning vegan cheese store from Shropshire, will also have a stall at the event.
Sam Riley, owner of Happy Mouse, said they are excited to come to Sheffield:
“We know the Vegan scene is strong in Sheffield and we can’t wait to showcase our vegan cheese.”
Throughout the event there will also be vegan based charities that people will be able to support.
Miss Bryceson said: “We hope that non-vegans coming will leave with more information about how to go vegan and with lots of new ideas on what to eat and cook as a vegan.”
She said that if the event is successful it may lead to it becoming a recurring one in the city.
The event is being run by Vegan Events UK, who set up similar festivals across the nation, like in York, Leicester, and Pudsey.
It takes place this Sunday, 12 May and you can buy tickets here.
