Blood Cancer UK is a charity that is dedicated to beating all types of blood cancer such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma by funding research and supporting those affected.
Hosting for the second time, Bracken Baines, 27, a small business owner from Barnsley said they aim to raise as much money for the charity as possible. The event will have a variety of entertainment, from a live musical performance to a raffle with prizes being donated by “some amazing companies.”
Another reason Ms Baines has decided to return as a host is due to her own personal experience with the charity, after being diagnosed with stage four chronic lymphatic leukaemia last year.
She originally thought that she was anaemic due to how tired she was becoming but it wasn’t until she noticed she was getting bruises in unusual places like her nose or behind her ear. That was when she finally decided to get checked out and was diagnosed with leukaemia.
“Having Blood cancer is one of the most hardest, eye opening, turbulent times of my life! I’m 27 and I should be travelling and starting a family and doing all the things I want to do, yet cancer has put a huge hold on my life and my plans!”
Blood cancer UK has helped Ms Baines throughout her journey, supporting her and checking in with her regularly as she continues her fight, “they give people with blood cancer hope” as the money they raise funds vital life changing treatments and research.
“So as a thank you this is why I dedicate my fundraising events to them to help fund those researches to help more people like me!”
The Blood Cancer UK fundraiser will be held on September 14 at the Sheffield Plate in the City Centre at 1pm.
