A brand new food hall, described as ‘Europe’s biggest’ is set to open next week.

Cambridge Street Collective will open on Thursday and will be home to 24 different international food vendors.

The project was announced in March 2021 and was originally due to open in February of last year, but was delayed four times.

The Collective is run by Sheffield-based company Blend Family, who also run Sheffield’s first food hall, the Cutlery Works, a popular hub for locals in Kelham Island.

Matt Bigland, CEO for Blend family said: “Cambridge Street Collective is set over three floors, with over 24 kitchens, a cookery school, bakery and a mix of traditional, Asian and rooftop bars.

“It took time to curate the perfect selection of restaurants. We wanted to build trust with communities and continue with traditional authentic cooking.

“We never wanted bland or deep-fried foods, we wanted only granny’s best recipes.”

Matt runs Blend Family with his wife and business partner Nina, who felt they needed a new space to honour Sheffield’s diversity.

The 20,000 sq foot space will feature vendors from across the world, such as Hungry Buddha’s Nepalese, Baity’s Palestinian Kitchen and Tang’s Asian Hotpot.

Owner and Chef for Tang, Motto Ming said: “I came from Hong Kong in 2021, and I was instantly met with cold weather, so I wanted to make something to help with that.

“I met Matt and Tina when I first moved here, and told them my vision and they have been very supportive and helped to bring the idea to life.

“The name Tang comes from ‘malatang’, meaning spicy numbing soup. We cook our soup for 7 hours with a mix of carefully selected seasonings. Customers select their base and fill up their bowls with whatever ingredients they like.”

Motto said his signature soup is the malatang, a spicy Sichuan broth.

Tang had a stall in Cutlery Works while renovations were underway, as well as venues that will remain open in Liverpool and Manchester.

The Collective will feature a special ceremony on May 25 where it will be blessed by Buddhist Monks in a cultural celebration.

Further events such as pasta making workshops, recharge and rejuvenate classes and free meet-and-greets from characters, such as Frozen, will be held for children.

The full list of events taking place can be found here.

The Collective is part of phase two of Sheffield’s Heart of the City redevelopment Project, which aims to create over 7000 jobs for the community.

The opening of The Cambridge Street Collective will be the fourth food hall to open in Sheffield, alongside Cutlery Works, Sheffield Plate and the Kommune.
