Sheffield Wednesday Ladies FC finished a successful season of progress on Sunday.
Their season started in September with two tight victories, winning both 3-2.
However, a 7-2 loss to Brunsmeer Athletic, and a 4-2 loss to Rotherham United Reserves, showed that there was plenty of work to do.
A new media team, a partnership with Forge Radio and new recruits helped to take the side to new heights, and big wins, such as a 10-0 victory over Hepworth United and an 8-1 demolition of Socrates LFC, soon followed.
Undoubtedly the star of the 2023/24 campaign was Amy Broomhead, a prolific striker who wears number 8 on her back.
She scored over 40 goals and finished the season as the top scorer in the Sheffield & Hallamshire League.
Alongside her, young stars such as Renee Simmonite-Scott and Heidi O’Reilly joined with experienced heads such as Kirsty Tonner in goal to make Sheffield Wednesday Ladies a force to be reckoned with.
After finishing third in the league, the Her Game Too Shield, contested at the New York Stadium, was a perfect way to end the season, playing in front of 1,500 supporters.
It was a 2-0 loss for Keiron Lee’s side, but they left with their heads held high as they were well in the game against a Rotherham United side two divisions above them.
