A woman was stabbed and gunshots were fired in the Batemoor area of the city on Monday morning.
An ambulance was called to White Thorn View following reports of a 41 year old woman being stabbed.
Officers believe the gunshots were fired during an altercation between a group of men and women after the stabbing.
The woman remains in hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Detective Inspector Claire Moss, of the Armed Crime Team and the lead on this case, said:
“Fortunately, no one sustained life-threatening injuries or was harmed following the firearms discharge. This could have been a different story with a very different outcome.
“Gun crime has no place here in South Yorkshire – we won’t tolerate it. If you do have information that can help us in our investigation, we are urging you to come forward.”
Just last month, police were called to reports of gunshots being fired at a family road on Gresley Road in Lowedges.
