A memorial of Sheffield’s Sheaf Wheel was restored in recognition of the work of the Sheaf and Porter Rivers Trust, on Saxon Road last Tuesday.
People gathered to watch the unveiling of the wheel by Alex Jackson, who worked alongside the SPR Trust to improve the health of the River Sheaf.
Sheffield’s rivers were polluted heavily during the industrial period and the SPR Trust have been working to re-naturalise the rivers, preserve their natural beauty and reduce risk of flooding.
Alex Jackson is managing director of the Wolf Safety Lamp Company, which has been situated next to the River Sheaf since 1933. He spoke about the restoration of the wheel, and the importance of the SPR Trusts’ work.
