Sheffield’s annual orchid show will take place tomorrow in St John’s Church Hall on Abbeydale Road tomorrow from 10am.

The exotic plants and orchids of 6 societies from the midlands and North of England will join to show off the best of their plants.

Dr David Alexander Gregory from the University Of Sheffield, who is the chairman of the Sheffield and district orchid society, explained that due to Brexit, the importation of rare orchids from around the globe has become exponentially expensive, but by importing as a society the price is reduced.

At the show there will be one of the biggest UK orchid importers, Spiceotic, bringing a vast array of plants.

Dr David has been growing orchids from 8 years old and he will bring his own array of orchids that have been grown from seed.

This is the 51st annual show, and celebrates the infamous flower.

Orchids have been used in China and Japan since 2800 Bc herbally for their curative properties to treat coughs, fevers and wounds.

There are over 25,000 orchids and some even provide flavour like vanilla pods that sprout from some flowers.
